Continental Sagcheck is a strengthened, sag-resistant gypsum board for interior ceiling applications. It is designed to resist sagging under high-humidity conditions and wet-application texturing.
The board contains a special dense, noncombustible gypsum core enhanced with glass fibers. It is covered with paper facings on the front (ivory), back, and long edges. The heavier-weight ivory surface will accommodate a variety of paints and textures after proper surface preparation, which includes sealing with a high-quality latex primer or sealer.
Sagcheck can be used in building applications that require direct mechanical attachment to wood or metal wall and ceiling frames, or attachment to existing surfaces using fasteners or adhesives. If using the product for renovation work, the installer should be certain to penetrate old wall or ceiling coverings to prevent the development of a vapor barrier. Likewise, a vapor barrier should not be applied behind Sagcheck.
Per ASTM C 840 and building codes, 1/2-inch Sagcheck (ceiling board meeting ASTM C 1396) is permitted to be installed with supports up to 24 inches o.c. and the board perpendicular to the framing on ceilings to receive a water-based texture.
*The federal specification for gypsum board, SS-L-30d, was withdrawn in 1984. It is provided here for information only and should not be referenced for new construction.
Sagcheck is designed to provide resistance against sagging ceilings in both residential and commercial construction applications, including:
- Ceilings spanning 18- to 24-inch o.c. supports
- High-humidity conditions
- Ceilings to receive wet application texturing
Ease of installation: Fast installation similar to that of regular drywall.
Job efficiency: Eliminates the need for two board thicknesses on the job. Unused Sagcheck for ceilings can also be used on walls, reducing waste.
Sag resistance: At a thickness of 1/2 inch, Sagcheck provides the same sag resistance as a 5/8-inch-thick board-for lower cost and less weight.
Core: Noncombustible, dimensionally stable, inert gypsum, enhanced with glass fibers and formulated for sag resistance.
Paper: 100 percent recycled; front and edges are heavyweight ivory; back is gray.
Long edges: Tapered.
Emissions: Asbestos free; GREENGUARD certified; listed as a low-emitting material.
